Super Zero: Zombie Apocalypse Short

Zombie Shorts By August 8, 2014 No Comments

Super ZeroI only write about Kickstarter campaigns that I believe in and I had really high hopes for Super Zero when I wrote about it a few months ago. I choose it as a featured project mostly because I really connected with the premise and loved it’s originality – the fact that it was about zombies was a huge bonus….

Zombie Shorts: The ‘Zombie with a Shotgun’ Series

Zombie Shorts By August 28, 2013 Tags: , , , , , , No Comments

Zombie with a Shotgun is a short series documenting the early days of a semi-living man and his transition into Zombiedom.

A suspenseful and artsy short series, Zombie with a Shotgun is a visually and emotionally enticing story. I would love to see where the story goes or a full length film! The shorts progressively get better as they go, so check out the full series below or visit the Vimeo site here.

Zombie with a Shotgun ~ Episode: 1 from Zombie with a Shotgun on Vimeo.

Zombie With a Shotgun, Episode ~ 2 from Zombie with a Shotgun on Vimeo.

Zombie with a Shotgun ~ Episode 3 from Zombie with a Shotgun on Vimeo.

Zombie with a Shotgun ~ Episode 4 from Zombie with a Shotgun on Vimeo.

All the shorts in the series are in great visual quality, especially difficult for dark places, The sound quality is also superb and sound effects and music great. The camera movements and focus is my favorite and placement of the actors in the scene or relative to each other never seems awkward or inappropriate.  Working with a limited budget the crew really seemed to take full advantage of the visual elements they had at their disposal rather than rely on sub par elements in an attempt to pretend to be something it’s not. Also, the actors are all great and/or interesting looking which is a big plus to me!

The acting in the series seems to improve as it goes on, as with many shorts I’ve seen, although some of the actual lines seemed a little “on the fly” at times, unnatural at others, the overall quality of  the series shows real promise, for a feature or longer running series.

Zombie Short: Laboratory, Animated Horror!

Zombie Shorts By July 25, 2013 No Comments

This excellent little short animation, entitled Laboratory, was created by Matthew Rogers and is entered in the Four4 horror short film competition 2013.

I smiled when I watched this great little clip and the animation style reminds me of Cartoon Network’s Superjail, raw, punk and squiggle-vision-esque, which is actually my favorite animation style (DrKatz, Home Movies, Superjail etc.).

To vote, use Twitter to tweet the following hashtags: #votelaboratory and #four4horror. Both these hashtags in one tweet will count as a vote. for more information on the competition, visit :

Also, Check out Mattews Twitter account at:

Four4 is a short film competition from River Film challenging film makers to produce a film consisting of just 4 shots, which are each 4 seconds long. This year’s theme is “horror”.

Bollywood Zombie Film? Go Goa Gone – It’s truly spreading!

Zombie Shorts By April 10, 2013 Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , No Comments

I recently found out about the film “Go Goa Gone” about a group of friends who have a series of unfortunate events that make them go on vacation and have an adventure – a pretty predictable set up but none the less, you don’t expect anything from Bollywood to turn to ZOMBIES!
I personally have never heard of a Bollywood horror, I’m sure there are some but of all the dozens of Bollywood films I have seen, horror is not one and it’s the last genre I would expect to see, none the less the film seems gory, well budgeted and has interesting characters.
The “tough” characters are pretty typical of Bollywood, well groomed, sunglasses, leather coat, maybe some gold jewelry and hair grease, but to Bollywood fans this all looks normal, to most of us, the guys look like sleaze-balls, but in it’s own way this gives the film a little comedic value for us that maybe people in India wont “get”.
It looks ok, maybe even better than ok with some subtitles.

Keep an eye out for: Go Goa Gone

Open Source Zombie: Zombies for the people, by the people

Zombie Craft, Zombie Shorts By April 3, 2013 Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , No Comments

Open Source Zombie: is a zombie film project to be designed online, and completed AFK. Made by zombie fans for zombie fans!

Check out the kickstarter project here:

Their first goal  has been reached! Any additional donations will go towards film production and other necessities to make the project awesome. Check it out:

The film will have two ways on how people can participate, they can film “plugins” or their own short stories that take part in the same apocalyptic world. There are only very few restrictions and even material made with mobile phones if it is good can be added to the actual film. Video/film makers all around the world can fill into the main plot by making their own side stories, and filming it THEMSELVES. It is like Iron Sky vs. Youtube’s Life in a Day, except a f%^$£ up realistic scenario of a Malthusian catastrophe in which humans form complex groups to fight each other and zombies. This would be 50% of material.

Then another part the main plot is developed online in a collaboration by talented core people. This is where some writing talent is needed and real interest, but if you are up to it please step forth! This part is going to be filmed with rigor, and professionally with a good cinema camera. However as only about 40 minutes of material need to be shot this will bring down costs quite considerably, and effort can be put into making this very intense! Now again the zombies, actors, crew are all going to be part of the open source community!

We are going to create a “democratic” system in a similar manner to real life on our website. A voting system will be done so that important factors about the nature of zombies and their consciousness can be decided. There will be a main script, which can be influenced by taking part, but also on top of that There will be no black and white in this film, but 365 shades of grey. Morality, survivalism, altruism are factors that this film deals with. Iron Sky is very much an inspiration, but only in how they made the film.

We have thought about a few guidelines for zombies, which make them more based on science but moreover easier for people to concentrate on the important factors. Parasitic worms are the cause? Yes, this is a point that makes acting especially for amateurs easier. First the zombies are live creatures, and die easier making it easier to create realistic killings, but sure the easiest way is always to kill the brain as the worms secrete a powerful painkiller making the zombies numb to pain. The zombies if not very hungry would not eat other humans but drool maggot infested saliva on top of the victims, however the zombies might be starving thus need to eat what ever they can get their hands on. Now making realistic eating scenes is quite hard, and this is the reason why eating is a good option for only those that are into making outstanding VFX.

If you are not convinced about parasites then you should know that World Health Organization estimates that around 10% of humanity live with parasitic worms (600-700 million people suffer at this moment, some of these are extremely painful infestations) and also watch this national geographic video on how parasitic worms change snails into zombies

Soy un Zombie! (I’m a zombie!) – Video of the Day

Video of the Week, Zombie Shorts By January 25, 2013 Tags: , , , , , , , , No Comments

This is a short film from some very talented Ecuadorian actors – and no body does a zombie walk like Ecuador so naturally they kick ass at making zombie shorts. It’s like they really understand zombies, their plight, their inner monologue, their torments – and it pays off greatly.

Now, you do need to understand spanish to “understand” this video, but at the same time you don’t. You can get the gist of it and be extremely entertained without understanding a word which is one thing that makes it so great.

There is one part where the main zombie has a realization of how “not bad” it is to be a zombie. “no more job , no debt, no banks, no fear, no fear of death!” – that is a genius way to look at becoming zombified.
